So Christmas and New Year have come and gone, and thankfully both were a lot more bearable than I'd been expecting. Christmas was spent in Shropshire with another family where, after lunch, my stepfather was presented with a ceramic toilet - a throwback to his university days when he played the toilet in a band called Vitreous China - and much fun was had thereafter as we re-created a number of Christmas classics with complementary instruments such as cazoos (is that how you spell it? I never know) and sleigh bells. Random, but different, and I'm coming to find in my New and Exciting Life that different is most definitely a good thing.
New Year was an extremely messy affair, as always. Started off innocently enough in a rather lovely pub in Balham, drinking champagne and having civilised conversations. By 5am, however, I was sitting cross-legged on the floor of my friend's living room, so far gone my only means of communication was the medium of text (aforementioned friend was sitting beside me and replying in kind. Thinking about it now this must have looked rather odd).
The job continues to make me happy - I am Marketing and Comms Officer extraordinaire (well, sort of). It really is a revelation waking up in the morning and feeling motivated to get out of bed and go into the office. A definite upside to the horrendousness of all that has happened in the past few weeks. The silver lining, if you will, to my cloud. Long may it continue.
So all in all I think it would be fair to say that progress is being made. I won't deny for a second that The Split is at the forefront of my consciousness a fair amount, but I can say with total honesty that in recent days I've been thinking of it less. And given it's only been a few weeks since what I shall henceforth refer to as the Period of Revelations, I don't think you can say much fairer than that really.
Oh - and one other thing to add to the silver lining theme of this post: I am officially capable of fancying other men. Yes, that's right people, the Bege is back on the market and ready for some fun!
