So...the fall back replied (quite a nice message, since you asked, though that still doesn't make him in any way appropriate) and, as predicted, the other one did not. Oh well, at least now I know beyond all reasonable doubt that particular contact has been severed. Shame, given the happy memories, but it's not as if it was particularly acrimonious, so I'm sure they won't be tarnished too much. At the end of the day, he's young and he's not The One; what more is there to say (other than 'Next!')?
And speaking of too-young suitors, the following article in today's Metro couldn't have been better timed if it tried:
Mind The Gap:
Cougars beware - having a younger man in your life can be bad for your health. Women marrying a partner seven to nine years younger increase their mortality risk by 20 per cent. The stress of being in a relationship that 'violates social norms' has been given as a possible reason for a reduced life expectancy.
Wow, if ever I needed a reason to trade up, as it were, then this is it. Conclusive evidence that dating beneath you is bad news (as if I needed any more evidence of this...)
On another note, in the interest of making me feel like less of a senile old bag, I've decided to document the books I read on this blog, so I shall start with one I've just finished and would highly recommend...The Secret Intensity of Everyday Life by William Nicholson. It's an interesting social observation of the various inhabitants of a village over a six day period, and really captured my imagination...
